Luis Prieto

Venezuela

Luis Prieto’s art is eye catching for his love of pure form and color.

"I want to paint pure and revolutionary compositions to show to the people that everything is possible".

Luis Prieto’s art is eye catching for his love of pure form and color. Admitting his strong influence of Cubism and Futurism, Luis Prieto’s works emphasize the two-dimensionality of the canvas by fracturing the painted subject (Canton tower, a piece of quartz, etc) into geometric forms, and then he realigns these shapes within a shallow, relief like space. Luis Prieto has a very clear view on building strong compositions by using cones, spheres, pyramids etc., revealing a very methodical deconstruction into three-dimensional shaded facets, some caved others convex. So, instead of an image of an external world, we are given a world of its own, analogous to nature but built upon the mind’s power to abstract and synthesize the different impressions of the world into new wholes.

Love, life cycles, Feng Shui’s energy systems and Rudolf Arnheim's ideas about color harmony are behind the color palettes and juxtapositions in his powerful compositions. Luis Prieto’s artworks are innovations of creative and playful materials which combines 2 and 3 dimensions and result compositions with a rhythm of their own. Bright colors and bold lines represent an exciting way of seeing and experiencing the world through his eyes.
