Rafael Francisc Matias

Romania

Rafael Matias has a sensorial approach in his relationship with nature, illustrating it from a micro and macrocosmic perspective.

Started as a figurative-anchored painter, Rafael Matias is giving up this form of expression in favor of the compositional freedom offered by the Abstract painting, his strong desire being to create emotions and not just images. Rafael Matias is carefully archiving moments and sentimental states that he then expresses in compositions where this emotional language is illustrated by energies and tensions between bold and subtle elements at the same time.

Rafael Matias has a sensorial approach in his relationship with nature, illustrating it from a micro and macrocosmic perspective, inserting a pseudo figurative element as a kind of visual riddle, the clue being often found in the title of the work. The artist leaves himself seduced by earthy, vegetal, textile materials, giving them the role of symbol: the roots – family, memories; the scale – personal evolution; the knot – existence, life, experience.
