Eugen Raportoru

Romania

Eugen Raportoru had the chance to draw the attention and the teacher's tutelage of famous painters such as Corneliu Baba (1975-1977).

Eugen Raportoru comes from a very simple background, from a family with 9 children, located on the outskirts of Bucharest and of society.

His eagerness to paint drove him to want to meet the great master Corneliu Baba and he actually had the chance to draw the attention and the teacher's tutelage of famous painters such as Corneliu Baba (1975-1977), Mihai Cismaru, Ion Brodeală, who sustained him financially and professionally.

Here’s what Eugen Raportoru told about meeting the great master Corneliu Baba: „I had the chance to discover the great artist Corneliu Baba. I loved his works! I am still impressed now. I think is one of the deepest painters worldwide. I used to visit all his exhibitions; I saw his works at the Museum. I found out that I could reach him at Art Faculty where he was teacher. I went there, I knocked at the door and I told him: ’I saw your works in museums, but you haven’t seen mine’. Since then, he allowed me to visit him at work.”

He had his first exhibition show at the age of 14, his paintings being on display on the walls of Cinema „Grivita”.

His ambition to become an important figure in Romanian painting determined him to complete the studies at the National University of Arts Bucharest and getting the MA in painting at the age of 50.

Eugen Raportoru exhibited in many art shows in Romania and abroad, his paintings being displayed int the Romanian Contemporary Art Show in Vatican in 2004. A year later, in 2005, Eugen Raportoru had the opportunity to have a solo show  in Stockholm, later on his works were exhibited at The Royal Summer Exhibition in London and in 2019, a solo show in London.
